Digital Ad Materials

The required file format is PDF/X-1a (vector) 300 dpi.
All fonts and images should be embedded.

PDF/X-1a must be made by one of the following:
• Export using the Adobe [PDF/X-1a:2001] preset from InDesign CS2 or higher.
• PostScript using the Hearst PPD, which is available for download at ads.hearst.com

All partial page ads need to be supplied in the PDF/X-1a format.
Hearst will not accept TIFF/IT-P1, PDF/X-1a files converted from TIFF/IT-P1, or native application files.

• Maximum ink density is 300 total
• Recommended minimum dot is 5%.

Hearst and its suppliers will not be responsible for files that do not comply with the above specifications.


Proof Submission

If a proof is supplied, Hearst Magazines requires a halftone or inkjet SWOP-certified system made to the SWOP 2006 #3 or #5 data sets (depending on magazine paper stock), and generated directly from the furnished file.

Proofs must be at 100% size and include the IDEAlliance ISO 12647-7 color control strip, measuring within allowable tolerances (ΔE L*a*b).

Hearst and its suppliers will not be responsible for files that do not comply with the above specifications.
